Bush Turns Back the Clock

Gavin Rossdale of Bush at The Rave in Milwaukee on 8 Oct 2011

Bush rolled into The Rave in Milwaukee on 8 October 2011, fronted by Gavin Rossdale, with an energy that was reminiscent of a time when they topped radio playlists in the late ’90s.  The are touring in support of The Sea of Memories, their first studio release in over a decade released last month.

Robin Goodridge sat upon a drum riser that extended about 10 feet above the main stage, flanked by ramps on either side.  Lead guitarist Chris Traynor was positioned stage-right while bassist Corey Britz took the opposite side. Rossdale played to every facet of the crowd–eying  the balconies and mingling with the fans along the rail–he was constantly in motion.

They opened with Little Things from their debut Sixteen Stone, projecting many of those in attendance back to 1994.  Sixteen Stone and The Sea of Memories embodied the majority of their set, comprising 11 of the 16 tracks on the night.  Rossdale shed his trademark camouflage shirt by the third song, The Chemicals Between Us, joining many of the fans who had already partially disrobed as the spacious Eagle’s Ballroom became a furnace.

The closed their set with The Beatles Come Together, Glycerine, and Comedown giving everything for about 90 minutes.  Bush demonstrated they haven’t lost a step and their pristine sound and energetic performance commanded attention.  This can easily be labeled as a must-see tour, especially with Chevelle on the marquee. Filter seemed to be a step or two behind Bush and Chevelle but that also suggests why they opened the show.
