Bush Returns, Packs Chicago’s Congress Theater

Gavin Rossdale of Bush performs at the Congress Theater in Chicago

Bush and Chevelle played a free show at Chicago’s Congress Theater as part of Samsung and AT&T’s Summer Krush series. Thousands of fans lined Milwaukee Avenue outside the venue, divided into “Registered” and “Priority”, as they spanned several blocks in either direction from the entrance.

English grunge rockers Bush reformed, original lineup of Gavin Rossdale (and Robin Goodridge on drums), in 2010 and have been working on a new release Sea of Memories. Rossdale looked good despite nearly a decade passing since Golden State hit the streets.  However, Soundgarden recently proved that 90′s grunge rockers can still bring it and Bush did exactly that as the Congress Theater was jammed full of excited fans.

Not holding anything back, Bush opened with Machinehead, and the crowd went into a frenzy.  They did not play a long set (under an hour) but enough to demonstrate that they can still produce their trademark sound.  It remains to be seen if their new material will match the edginess that brought them multi-platinum success in the late ’90s.  They covered their main hits Glycerine, The Chemicals Between Us, Everything Zen, and closed with Comedown. Missing from the set was Swallowed and instead they performed a weak cover of The Beatles Come Together.
